Due to the high torque setting for the nut a spanner wouldn't be much good. You need a breaker bar. I carry a socket with me and hope to find a friendly soul , in the case of emergencies.
Mike, not sure whether you want the bike more upright or more leaned. My suspension is slightly lowered so bike stands more upright. I've always mounted by stepping onto the peg whilst still on sidestand. Is that an option for you?

So you lifted the tank. Time to check everything under there. The breather tubes, pump connections, injector plugs. Check the airbox is seated properly on the air intake ports and clamped. Does the pump prime each time you turn the ignition on ?

just a thought. If like me you have the clutch biting with the lever close to the bar, check your gloves aren't bunching on your hand causing extra pressure on the lever.

I've got one fitted to my 2016. Spacers should come with mount and are needed to hold the plate off the screen mounting.
Due to vibration , the ball ( when loaded ) nut is prone to loosen and let your satnav swing low. I epoxy'd mine and had no more problems.

I tried the Avon Trailrider tyres . They were steady enough on rough ground, but the majority of my riding was on the road so switched to Avon Spirit ST which I find excellent.
