THREAD REVIVAL!
I've always been of the same opinion, so, for at least the past couple of years I've been doing the same. Recently, I took my bike in for its first MoT, and got a couple of advisories:
Chain tension a bit tight (I measured about 22mm, more than Yamaha's recommendation, as I...
Just before setting off on two-week trip to the Bol d'Or, via the Pyrenees, camping all the time. Yamaha panniers, Givi tank bag, Kriega 20 + two Kriega 10s, tent on top in dry bag.
For some unknown reason, the MT's left peg pivot pin is riveted, so it needs to be drilled out, which is no big deal. I bought some cheap Chinese FJR pegs of e-bay, which were supplied with pivot pins and the E clips needs to hold them in place. It's a straightforward replacement.
The FJR pegs...
You'd just be doubling up on the rebound damping, rather than adding compression damping. As I mentioned in my earlier post, I believe that soft (stock) springs and lots of rebound damping is an undesirable - and potentially dangerous - combination.
Looks amazing! It looks like a bike, and you can lean it, but I'd like to know how far. I'd really like to have a test ride. Possible advantages:
Double the amount of rubber on the floor at the front, meaning you're never likely to be lacking grip. Very little chance of ever losing the front...
I'm heading off this weekend on my second trip abroad this year, to the Bol d'Or, via the Vosges and, hopefully, the Timmelsjoch and Stelvio passes, though I've heard that the latter was briefly closed due to a snow fall last weekend, and the forecast is not great for the coming weekend, so...
At first glance, the Chinese ones I bought looked decent quality, but stupid little things let them down, like screws that had been cross-threaded on assembly, stripping threads in the alloy body, and screws not long enough to even reach threads. These all seemed to be assembly faults, and I may...
I bought a pair of cheap Chinese spotlights for my Sportster. I didn't even finish fitting them, as it became clear that, though their initial appearance was ok, the build quality was utter crap. I did what I should have done in the first place, and bought a pair of lights from BikeVis. Worth...
Camping Moto Rendezvous
Lunas
Languedoc,France
I stayed here a few years ago. It used to be Dutch-run, but I think it may now have French owners. It had a reputation as the partyest of the biker-only campsites in France, and my experience was that this reputation was deserved. On arrival...
Travelling in France, I've found the Premiere Classe chain of hotels to be ideal stop-overs en route. Rooms are between 29-35 euros a night, comfortable beds, air conditioned, with en-suite toilet and shower. Premeiere Classe seem to have taken the place of the old Formule 1 motels, which have...
I ordered a screen, clutch and brake levers from them, which were delivered very quickly. When they arrived, I found they'd sent the wrong clutch lever. I e-mailed them pics of the stock lever and their lever for comparison (there was no lug on the lever to contact the ignition cut-out switch on...
I've just replaced the rear PR4 after a shade over 7,000 miles. Probably could have stretched another 500 miles out of it, but when they get this thin it's easy to get a puncture. I replaced the previous rear PR4 after 5,000 miles after finding a nail in it.
The front PR4 has been on the bike...
A lot of people seem to be setting their rebound damping (the only damping adjustment available, though adjusting rebound damping unavoidably has a (smaller) effect on compression damping) close to maximum.
Have any of you who do that actually tried bouncing the bike at standstill, to see how...
Yes, that's what I used. It's a lot better than fitting resistors, in my opinion. It's a direct replacement for the stock relay, sitting in the same place; you don't have to find space (at the front and the rear of the bike) for bulky resistors, which, as brakkeman mentions, do get hot and need...
I fitted them to mine a few weeks ago, and I'm very pleased with them. Not sure about the legality, and I don't care, as they're very effective in making me more visible. My bike's a couple of years away from needing an MoT, but I'm fairly certain that, when the time comes, the examiner will...
I have a US20 for my MT-09 (also non-Tracer). It's a good size for a weekend away, as long as you're not camping. I fitted the two front straps to the frame rail, but it's not possible to do that with the rear ones, so I looped them together under the seat, as per Kriega's instructions. Works...
A mate of mine has fitted the Tutoro automatic system to his Tiger Sport, and it seems to be doing a really good job. I'd like to put one on my MT-09, but I'm struggling to find a neat place to locate the reservoir. The beauty of the Tutoro system is that it's self-contained, and doesn't need a...
