Finally managed to modify my standard exhaust.
Bought one of Ebay for £62, cut the top of it and removed some internal pipework.

Had a local fabricator reweld it back on for £20

Took about an hour to remove my original and refit my modified one

I did a sound test before and after with my a decibel phone app.
It showed 88db 25cm from the exhaust tip at tickover, raising to about 102db at 5000rpm
The modified one reads 96db at tickover, raising to about 105db at 5000rpm
I'm very happy with sound, not much louder than stock but a deeper, more boomy sound
Performance doesnt seem any different, and no warning lights have flashed up (I didnt touch the cat, only cut the exit pipe and drilled some holes in final baffle chamber)
Well woth the time and £82, especially if you like the look of the standard exhaust

Will do tomorrow, but I dont think my camera will pick up the deeper tone. Its nowhere near as loud as the carbon akra or other full race pipes, and not loud enough to annoy the neighbours. I dont think you can compare my db readings to one taken for a trackday, as they use specialised equiptment, and I used a free app on my phone!
It was really only for comparison between the two. What I really need to do is measure the db output on a carbon akra.

Interesting. I'm not sure I'd want to go to that extent personally, but interesting to hear the modified pipe if you get the chance to upload a sound bite.
this is mine, but I took everything out, reduced the box width by 60mm and welded in a 50mm straight through pipe...

far far better in real life, my mates thinks its the dogs danglies considering what it is and the fact it gives the same bhp gain as a £600 Akrapovic :)

A good job well done! Result.

P.S: Look out for farmers and their flocks! :D
oh no, I've been rumbled :)

An Akra's next on my list as I want to eradicate the "whistling" you get with the standard pipe and have a more purposeful, sportier and throatier sound.
if I'd cut the exit pipe out and used 50mm pipe all the way through it would sound even better, I might just do that over the winter to my spare exhaust :)
