Have no idea, but it's not normal for battery to die like that without a reason. In my old bike - Suzuki Sv1000S - I never do anything during winter storage and never had a problem with battery when starting up the bike in the spring. It always has started up with one touch of the button like MT...

I think you have messed something up when installing indicators. I have left mine MT in the begining of the december. Never touch it since. And last weekend it has started up without any hesitation like it would been ridden all the time.

The only disadvantage of removed buffle for me is that i have to push my bike out of underground garage in my building because I can't start the engine inside. It turns on the alarms in cars including my own :D :D :D Luckily its a very very small underground garage so it's only about 10 to 15...
