s'funny cos this is the only forum where i dont get notifications and i didnt click anything to do otherwise. ive got 11,800 unread messages from forums,ebay and other pants in 1 email account ...

Try "Disable Emails" in "Notification Settings". It looks like these likes and thanks are some forum plugins and those seem to be settings for those plugins.

I turned off everything that looked even remotely like it would generate an email notification. It seems to have worked, although I don't know which. Thanks mate!
