That last "thing" is a side stand extension.
It makes the footprint bigger.

Excellent! Thanks for the info. Never had use for one, as both my bikes have large protrusions on the ends of the side stands. I guess they omitted this on the MT for greater aerodynamics

They are typical used for adventure bikes where you may be parking on soft ground.
Interesting that there is no Tail Tidy ? I've just fitted one on mine.

Seems my Tail Tidy is the same as the licence plate holder without that (30cm isn) girder fitted.
Looks OK though.
