I have had the AIS removed for a couple of months now and want to give some feedback . Firstly at the time when I had my ECU flashed in OZ there was no option to turn the AIS off although I do not know if it is now a option. I installed a Akra Carbon Exhaust without DB killer and was getting what I would call excessive amounts of backfire from the exhaust when down changing , So I opted to remove the AIS and install blockoff plates. I must say that has made a big difference in the amount of backfiring. I still get some backfiring when pressing hard thru my favorite twisties which I would call normal but it doesn't sound like a 50 cal going off.
