I have oxford hotgrips and a g2 tamer. It took a little modification but was not difficult. They simply wire straight to the battery and switch off when the engine is off.

Same here - except I got the grips onto the G2 tamer with a bit of WD40.
I anticipated squeezing a bit of glue in once the WD40 had dried out but the grips don't move at all, so I've not bothered
The auto-off function seems to work fine - but I THINK that when the grips are on full they draw more than the battery is getting from the alternator (need to check some figures).
In any event, I've had a flat battery and can't think of any other explanation and the wife's bike has done the same before now.
