I dropped my bike in at Yam today to get the new cam chain tensioner fitted and took a courtesy bike overnight.

I thought I would make the most of it and take something fun so I got a brand new Kwaki Z1000 naked (I know, wash my mouth out), planning to take it for a few hours play time but the weather was against me, terrible rain all morning so decided to take it home but not the shortest route, I may as well have a play for a little while so take a round about route (approx 50-60 miles).

Well, if you thought the weather protection on the MT is bad please trust me the Z1000 is atrocious. I have never got as wet on a bike as I did on this one today.

There's absolutely no screen (just like the MT) and no fairings worth mentioning, other than the plastics under the tank to the top of the radiator (just like the MT) but the main problem is the spray up the back end - it's EVEN WORSE than the MT. Straight away I could feel my backside and legs getting wet and once I got home my back was also soaked through and sprayed with all the usual road muck, slime and crud. Also the water collects and runs down (there's no easy way to say this) your butt crack due to the design of the pillion seat and how it meets the riders seat.

I think the Z1000 back end has been trimmed down too far and there's no cover around the sides of the passenger seat at all.

Other than leaving me soaked to the skin the bike seems as much fun as the MT, the engine has power everywhere, which I think they have achieved by tuning the engine for better low-mid torque and also setting the gearing so all the pull is low down and it sacrifices all the top end speed, which to be honest you don't need on the road if you want to keep your licence. I think it can do around 140 rather than the 186 or so that the same engine can achieve in the ZX10.

Back to drying out now.

I invested in a Spada all in one waterproof gimp suit that's tucked in the ABS void under the seat for such occasions.

I invested in a set of Richa C-CHANGE....best thing I've bought (except bikes)! In years...
Keeps me bone dry in the rain, warm in the winter months and cool in the summer months and the best bit is....it's fully waterproof so only have to zip the winter lining in or out. No pissing about zipping waterproof membranes in and out lol
