'morning from the Shire!

picked up a 2015 with ABS, 2k miles last week and I'm one 100 mile ride into ownership. This is the most modern bike I've owned by a good ten years or more, and it shows - what a motor!

Need to get fuelling sorted either by sending ECU away for reflash maybe here 2014-2015 Yamaha MT09 MT-09 / Tracer / FZ09 ECU Flash Remap Tune Powercommander | eBay or with Triple Trouble. Anyone used this ebay service? Will also talk to local dyno, not sure if they have all the software to re-programme...

Rad guard on order. With recent surface dressing up here that fat rad is an accident waiting to happen with all the loose chippings.

Next will be fork cartridges (Andreani or Ktech?) and shock - Ohlins or Nitron. That's an easy extra £1000 though

Making a wishlist here MT09 collection on eBay!

Anyone found a better tail light? I am sure I glimpsed a picture of a nice subtle, smaller one when skipping through the internet but now I can't find it again

I went down the Nitron and RaceTech route. As you say, £1k with fitting, but the confidence on the front now is particularly empowering!

Fulfilled-09: Your front forks are K-tech springs, not cartridge?
I had a quick word with JHS racing about Andreani vs. K-Tech cartridges and they reckon there's not much difference since they both use 20mm piston kit (despite big price difference). Going to the Ohlins 30mm would be a step up.

Interestingly they said the Ohlins shock is better quality than the Nitron R1 shock even though they are similar function and price point. I wonder if anyone would dispute that?

After a word of warning from the dealer about taking this bike to track before Yammy Warranty expires, I've decided to go for a middle ground for road riding - basic ohlins shock and K-Tech cartridges. Mainly going for K-Tech because that's what the nearest suspension specialists offer (and they're still 150 miles away!)

Fitted a bagster tank cover mainly as protection rather than for tank bag. Getting those false air scoops off is a bit of a pig! Needed this to put a bolt through one of the tank cover harness straps.
Fitted a Beowulf Rad guard for much peace of mind.

Next is a pair of swingarm bobbins and a root around for a service manual....

They're actually Race Tech springs. With fitting, I was already at £1k, so a cartridge kit was sadly off the list. I'm delighted with the shock and springs and confidence has soared with the the drastic improvement in the handling.

I opted for the Nitron because everyone defaults to Ohlins. Yes, they have a great reputation, undoubtedly, but it's also a well known brand and the brand and yellow spring colour is a powerful statement. Nitro is British too, which swayed it for me, but I did initially veer towards the Ohlins for the fore-mentioned reasons.

What were their words of wisdom?

Agree, if everything else is even I'd go for Nitron too. I might call another specialist and see what they say.

Dealer said Yamaha warranty would be void if bike registered as going on a track day. Don't know if my local track does register attendees.

I found a couple links on the FZ forum for workshop manual, will try them later when I get to a non-work computer.

Hey Highlander,
I'm in the shire as well, so dont know if you've already done the rear shock but Neil at Craigston Tyres in Meldrum is now a dealer and fits them/sets them up if you're still looking.
Might go there too myself soon enough.

Welcome along...

I've got the Evotech tail tidy and light change:

YAMAHA MT-09 2013 onwards Tail Tidy by Evotech Performance | eBay

As for your rear shock, depending on how quickly you want it changes, you many not have the option of the Ohlins one... I think they are all sold out and waiting for more to be manufactured...
