As far as I know, both HEL & Goodridge are 5 Lines.. Apparently that's the info from Yamaha.. I haven't removed my tank yet, but if I look under the seat where the rear hoses go to that union, beyond that there's metal pipes... So are you saying it changes again??? If so then I agree, it's pointless changing them.. Errr design error or wot!

I'm at the show Sunday, will be paying a visit to the Dark Side!
Yes when you lift the seat, tank and airbox off you will see what i mean.
I am just wondering if the braided makers are just running a single line from the master cylinder back to the ABS box
then a line linking both front calipers together then another line from 1 of the calipers back to the ABS box, total 3 front lines
The standard set up has 5 lengths of lines for the front

Didn't Hel have a bike to see what they were doing? If there are another 2 lines that need to be changed why didn't they make them!? I hope Hel didn't f@ck up the design because my lines are on their way. Otherwise all Hel is going to break loose ;)

I think either way it should be an improvement, after all, the patterns came from yam, and they have supplied to both manufacturers.. I will get some regardless as they are more durable and longer lasting than stock,

Will order carbon with either black or gold banjos.... At the NEC in the morning so maybe spending some cash....

Just had a proper look and the front lines def go into a junction bracket where they join onto 2 metal pipe lines, these run through the engine area then join back at another junction bracket back to rubber hoses. These are about a foot long then connect to the ABS unit.
I can on ly presume that they change to metal pipes through the engine area due to heat ?
But there again the rear does the same and theres no heat unless there expecting the shitty standard shock to overheat.
Will just have to wait till someone gets their braided lines and confirms.

Spoke to guys on MT stand today and asked the question of rubber hoses under the seat/tank.

The nice guy I spoke to wasn't a techy so he went to ask, he said that it 'can' be changed but would be a custom fit, in other words the current suppliers of the 5 lines would not be a 100% upgrade! a better cosmetic look tho!!! Not wot I was hoping for.

I have a hydraulic specialist not far from me in West Bromwich... If I have time one day I'll pop in and ask...

What the hell. So Hel is selling an incomplete braided hose kit! Gonna be pissed if it is not 100% braided!

Yep this is what i thought and the reason why ive held back from ordering until somebody could confirm.
Because my bike is stripped down ive been able to have a proper look.
This is just my opinion but i cant see any reason why the ABS cant be done in the race setup.
Instead of linking the 2 calipers together why cant a line from each caliper be routed all the way back to the ABS box, also there would be another line as standard going from the ABS box to the master cylinder.
If this is done you will be able to do away with the first junction bracket box where the standard rubber hoses meet the metal tubing under the headstock and the second one where the metal tubing joins the rubber hoses back to the ABS box.
Sorry if this is getting abit complicated but i just dont see any point in having a miss match of hoses.
Afterall my idea of the braided hoses is to stop the rubber hoses swelling under load therefore making the braking better.
If you just want them to look better, fair enough but i aint paying £150 for the looks alone.

Can you take some pictures of the ABS unit, the hoses and connecting box etc and put them here?
Thanks

Do the pipes look like they can be changed to metal lines, at the end of the day, it's just a pile of joints/tubes... I know it's a bit more complicated than that, but it's the basics surely.!

will take some pics and post later in week, that is if i can.
Im not the best at that stuff lol
Like i said before i cant see why braided hoses couldnt run all the way to the ABS unit from the calipers and master cylinder.
I may be wrong but i think the reason they change to metal pipes under the tank is because of heat from the engine on the rubber hoses
Surely with braided they would be ok especially if wrapped in some heat protection stuff.
Even a cut up heat soldering mat would do what us plumbers use.or better still the silver heat reflective stuff that they sell for exhausts

Agreed... I can't see why they've run metal from rear of the unions and then convert back to hoses before the ABS unit.... Cost saving I suppose. Surely this would be easier to prefab one length to fit between union and ABS.

Spoke to Hel today and theyve told me that the kit they sell for the ABS is what they were told to make.
It is as i thought not the full version and only goes in braided from the Master cylinder and caliper to underneath the headstock.
From here it connects to the factory metal hoses then further back to rubber hoses which join into the ABS box.
I explained to them what i want and have agreed to send them some pics when i take it all out of my bike.
The rear setup is also wrong from what i want so i will be sending them pics of that aswell.

My required setup is
Front
1 hose from each caliper to the ABS unit
A hose from master cylinder to ABS unit

Rear
I hose from caliper to ABS unit
! hose from master cylinder to ABS unit

They said im looking ar £30 a hose, but even though the hoses are longer than their present kit it shouldnt effect price.of £150
Afterall they will only need Banjos and not any of the other fittings
They also said that they only do the Banjos in choice of colours and that the other fittings as Standard are only available in stainless.

The Hel performance braided system will be upgraded to 7 hoses :) Just got an email from Nik at Hel performance saying that they are sending me 2 more hoses. Here is his email.

Hi - We have sent you 5 hoses in total. There are two more hoses under the tank to do with the ABS system/modulator. These are ones that will follow. Very sorry for the omission, but we will get these to you ASAP.

I assume your original 5 arrived, do they look good?

I would also assume they have the correct sizes etc for the xtra 2 underneath seat/tank
